Obituary

Joseph F. Mellon, Sr., age 97, of Blue Bell, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

He was born in Wilmington, Delaware on January 7, 1929, the son of the late George A. and Maybelle (Pierce) Mellon.

Joe has been living in Blue Bell for three years, formerly of Hazleton, East Norriton and Plymouth Meeting, PA.  He was a parishioner of Epiphany of Our Lord RC Church of Plymouth Meeting.

Joe was a graduate of the Salesianum School in Wilmington, DE.  He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and later as a U.S. Merchant Marine.

Prior to his retirement, he worked as a Stationary Engineer for Merck & Co.

He was the husband of the late Jacqueline A. (Mullin) Mellon.

Beyond his many accomplishments and the roles he faithfully fulfilled as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and man of faith, he found great joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time outdoors, whether fishing at a favorite spot, hunting with family and friends, or camping under the open sky. He found solace and solitude in his red boat on his lake.

He enjoyed friendly competition and laughter around the table, especially during games of dominos, Five Crowns, and poker, where stories were shared and memories were made.  He dabbled in acting,  LOVED his word search games and animals.

He also cherished traveling and exploring new places, creating wonderful memories with his beloved wife through many cruise adventures to destinations near and far. Yet, of all the experiences he enjoyed throughout his 97 years, nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by his family.

His greatest pride and deepest joy were his wife of nearly 65 years, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether offering wisdom, sharing a laugh, telling a story, or simply being present, he treasured every moment spent with those he loved. The legacy he leaves behind is one of unwavering devotion to family, steadfast faith, gentle strength, and a lifetime of love that will continue to guide and inspire generations to come.

He is survived by five children, Joseph (Barb) Mellon, Jr. of Plymouth Meeting, Denise (Chris Tryens) Mellon of Media, Charles Mellon of Philadelphia, Thomas (Missy) Mellon of East Norriton and Matthew Mellon of San Diego; seven grandchildren, Emily, Stephen (Ashley), Monica, Benjamin, Alexander, Rachael and Carloyn; and five great grandchildren, Leyla, Evelyn, Stephen, Luna and Cooper.

Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, George Mellon, Thomas Mellon, Jane Tearl, Katherine Goulet, Margaret Barkley and Bertha Gibbons.

His Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 10:30 AM from Epiphany of Our Lord RC Church, 3050 Walton Road, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.  Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Tuesday morning from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM at the Church.
