Joseph E. Colen, Jr., age 84, of Gladwyne, PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2023 in his home.
He was born in West Conshohocken, PA on May 28, 1939, the son of the late Joseph E. Colen, Sr. and the late Mary Colen Doty.
Mr. Colen was a lifelong resident of Gladwyne, PA and a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. He was a dedicated supporter of Episcopal Academy where he served on the Board of Trustees and also supported Trinity College of Hartford, CT.
He enjoyed golfing, boating and good friends. He was a long-time member of Philadelphia Country Club, Merion Cricket Club and Rock Hall Yacht Club and enjoyed weekly rounds of golf at PCC with the "Raiders" and annual golf outings with the "Bankers". Joe served as President and CEO of Machined Metals Co, Inc and Jennings International while also serving on Bank and School boards.
One of his greatest loves was spending time on his Farm in Maryland with family and riding one of his beloved tractors.
He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was the husband of the late Mary Leach Colen (née Duer).
He is survived by four children, Joseph "Dusty" Colen, III (Mazie) of Gwynedd Valley, Jennifer Colen (the late Brian McAdams) of Bryn Mawr, Jennifer Leach Anderson (Hugh) of Newtown Square, and Ambler Selway (Jamie) of Haverford, PA;
sister, Susan Kreusser (the late Robert) of Fort Lauderdale, FL;
and brother, Jeffrey Colen (Alyse) of Rock Hall, MD.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Caroline & Samuel Colen; Eleanor, Hugh Jr. & Owen Anderson; and Jack, Colin and Mackenzie Selway. He was the dear companion of Gretchen Lerch.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM from St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 226 Righters Mill Road, Gladwyne, PA. Family will greet guests at the church starting at 10 am.
Interment will take place in the adjoining Churchyard.
