John H. Gaines, Sr. died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Suburban Woods Health and Rehabilitation Center.

John was born on May 1, 1940 in Jacksonville, Florida and relocated to Norristown, Pennsylvania with his family in childhood. He graduated from Eisenhower High School where he excelled in Science, was a member of Biology Club, and played JV1 Basketball. Baseball was his favorite sport. He loved playing in his youth with his brothers and later attending games with his sons. His love of singing led him to join a vocal group, The Gaylords, where he would perform publicly. John was a professional steelworker with both Alan Wood Steel and Lukens Steel Companies, a career from which he retired after many years.

To carry his legacy forward John leaves behind six children, John H. Gaines, Jr., Danielle Gaines,Kevin (Nicole) Burke, Alphuse Brewer, Natasha (Lance) Bennett and Brandon Perkins. As well as a host of grand, great-grand, great-great grandchildren and a brother, Robert (Shirley) Gaines Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel & Beatrice (Walters) Gaines, and two brothers Samuel Jr. and James L. Gaines.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:30 AM, at United Methodist Church, 800 W. Marshall Street, Norristown, Pa 19401.

Interment will be private.
