John P. Conway
John P. Conway, 81, of Wilmington, DE passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023.
He was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 1, 1942, the son of the late Thomas and the late Mae (Hughes) Conway. John has lived in Wilmington for over 50 years and grew up in Drexel Hill, PA. He was a member of The Church of the Holy Child.
John graduated with his undergrad from St. Joseph's University, master's degree from Villanova University, and his PhD in mathematics from Temple University.
He taught mathematics at Del Tech Community College, then worked in the actuarial department of various insurance companies throughout his career. After retiring he tutored college students in math and physics at Neumann University in Delaware County, PA.
He was the husband of late - Lillian (Ferrant) Conway. Survivors include his son Sean P. (and Samantha) Conway of Wilmington, DE; daughter Erin P. Conway of Wilmington, DE; sister Maryanne Moore of Plymouth Meeting, PA; and his grandchildren Emma, Ailey (their mother Valerie Beck) and Jack Conway. He is also survived by the Moore family of Conshohocken, the Shore Cousins, and his many nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his three brothers Thomas, Frank, and Robert Conway.
John was an avid runner for many years, completing several marathons. He also enjoyed reading, hiking, and fishing. He grew up going to the Jersey shore each summer in Ocean City, NJ and continued that tradition throughout his life taking his family to Sea Isle City every August.
His memorial mass will be held Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 11:00 AM at The Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE. Services will be officiated by Fr. Michael J. Carrier. Visitation will be held on from 10:00 to 10:45 AM at the church.
The interment will follow at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery in Greenville, DE.
