James J.
Fritz
Aug 21, 1939 — Jun 14, 2026
James J. Fritz, 86, of Conshohocken, PA passed away Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Jim was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 21, 1939, the son of Dr. James J. and the late Helen ( Conely ) Fritz, RN.
He attended St Matthew's grade school and graduated from Saint Matt's class of 1957 he then attended 2 years at Pierce College.
The Sisters of St Joseph were always important to Jim. He was a big help behind the scenes and took pleasure in helping Sister St. Herman. While in grade school he was an altar boy for 6 years, serving many masses, weddings and funerals. Later in life he regularly attended the 8:15 Mass until his health prevented him from doing so.
While in high school Jim worked after school as a cart boy for the Conshohocken Acme. That was the start of a 40 year career with Acme Markets. He was elected Union steward for local 1776 before going into management and ultimately becoming store supervisor, working in 19 different stores all in the Philadelphia area.
After a year long battle with colon cancer, Jim successfully completed a Lifetime certification course in scuba diving and loved to do shark and shipwreck dives. He dove through the Caribbean, the Florida Keys, Tahiti, Bora Bora and beyond.
But his first love was weight training where over a 60 year period he trained in gyms from Conshohocken to Venice Beach, making lifetime friendships along the way. He was the senior member at Superfit Gym where he was still doing chin ups well into his 80s.
Christmas season was a special time for Jim and his wife Linda who, as Santa and Mrs Claus visited various nursing homes over a 25 year period, making sure there was a gift for every resident and staff member.
Jim was always very proud of his family and all their accomplishments. For 16 years, even while working, graduating college, and raising children they made time to care for and support their brother, Jim who had been in a terrible accident.
Jim is survived by his wife, Linda (Rapp) Cerwinka, first wife Rosemary (Duff) Fritz, son Francis T. Fritz PhD, daughter Danielle Fritz Earhart (Brandt), son Christopher Fritz (Doreen) and his grandchildren Megan Fritz Howdeshell (James), Jayme Rose Earhart, Sheridan and Christopher Fritz, his great grandchildren Sadie and Isaiah Howdeshell, niece Shelly Fritz Swift (Adam), qrandnieces Lia and Lauren Swift and step children Sharon Cerwinka Gray (Leslie) and Michael Cerwinka (Jessica) as well as step grandchildren Maddie Gray, Katie Gray and Adriana Cerwinka.
