Dr. George L. Head
Dr. George L. Head, Phd, CPCU, ARM, CSP, CLU, age 84, of Collegeville, PA passed away Monday, January 19, 2026.
He was born in Seattle, WA on March 25, 1941, the son of the late Edward D. and the late Virginia E. (MacLaverty) Head.
George has been living in Collegeville, Pa formerly of Mercer Island, Washington.
He graduated from Mercer Island High School.
Dr. Head wrote on ethics for IRMI.com, (International Risk Management Institute) also author of Risk Management Why and How . George held several professional designations in insurance, safety and risk management, Dr Head was a risk management educator since he graduated in 1967 with a doctorate in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and joined American inistitute for Chartered Property Casuality Underwriters in suburban Philadelphia. Throughout his career Dr. Head developed and maintained the cirriculum and examinations for the Institute's professional designation program in risk management and safety, earning career recognition awards from the American Risk Association, the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Institute of Risk Management (British) and the International Society while contributing regularly to their publications as well as to the general risk management, insurance and safety trade press.
After retiring in 2000 as a Director Emeritus of the American Institute, Dr. Head continued to write and advise on risk management matters. He also answered over 1,000 readers risk management questions as part of the Ask George Head service sponsored by International Risk Management Institute. In July 2008, he officially retired from risk management and insurance to pursue the study of theology.
The job he enjoyed the most was being a greeter at the Local Trappe True Value Hardware Store.
George was also a talented debater and he enjoyed playing chess.
He is survived by his Friend and Care Giver for over 25 years Sharon Malasics of Chester Springs, Pa.
His Graveside Service and Interment will be private in Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, PA.
