Ferdinand O. Christian, MD, age 71, of Skippack, PA passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

He was born in Accra, Ghana on June 26, 1955, the son of the late Dr. Ferdinand and Grace (Phillips) Christian where he attended primary school at St Theresa’s School. Fred migrated to Ontario, Canada with his family where his father completed a fellowship in radiology. During his time in Toronto, Fred attended Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School. He finished his High Schooling at St. John’s Secondary School in Sekondi, Ghana. Fred received the highest score in the Ghana National College Entrance Exam, and went on to obtain his medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School in 1979. He married Joyce Christian November 1979, and they moved to New York City in June 1980. He underwent general surgery training at Harlem Hospital, and went on to complete a Cardio Thoracic and Vascular surgery training at Mt. Sinai Hospital working under Dr. Randall Griep, Professor Emeritus, a world renown cardiovascular surgeon, in 1989.

In 1992 Fred moved his family to West Orange, New Jersey where he joined a cardio thoracic & vascular surgical group based in Belleville, NJ. He later branched out into private practice, performing surgery in multiple hospitals in the northern New Jersey area. In 2006, after retiring from active surgery, Fred joined EHR as a medical consultant, and moved to Pennsylvania.

Fred has been living in Skippack for 10 years, formerly of North Wales, PA. He was a member of St. James’ Episcopal Church of Collegeville, PA and a member of St John’s Secondary School Alumni.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joyce E. Christian (née Robertson) of Skippack, PA; four children, Michelle Christian of Harleysville, PA, Ferdinand “Freddy” (Candace) Christian of West Orange, NJ, Christopher (Erica) Christian of West Norriton, PA, and Adam Christian of Harleysville, PA; sister, Maude Meier, Ph.D (Henry) of Racine, WI; and brother, Edmund Christian (Denise, MD) of Flourtown, PA. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Leila Joy Leverette, Xion Tafari Christian, Judah Michael Christian, Kingsley Rose Christian, Quincy Elijah Christian, and Azariah Olavi Christian.

His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 11:00 AM from St. James' Episcopal Church, 3768 Germantown Pike, Collegeville, PA 19426. 

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Saturday, August 8 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Church prior to the service.

Interment will take place in St. James' Cemetery, Collegeville, PA.
