Doris Grace Howard




Doris Grace Howard, 77, of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, passed away Monday, March 25, 2024.




She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 21, 1946, the daughter of the late Thomas and the late Alma Doris (Mims) Turner. She met and married Tyrone Howard Sr. From that union her only son, Tyrone Howard, Jr. was born and was the joy of her life.




Sister Howard was also a member of the St. John-Josie D. Heard A. M. E. Church, formerly known as St. John A.M.E. Church in Conshohocken. She had been a faithful member since the age of 7. As a youth, she was a member of the Rosebud Choir, Youth Choir and the Y.P.D. At the age of 16, she became a Sunday School Teacher. Later, she became the Assistant Superintendent and then Superintendent, and the Y. P. D. Director. In addition, she was a dedicated member of the Unity Choir, Steward Board, Trustee Board, the Susan Lucretia Johnson Missionary Society, and Pastor's Aide.




Sister Howard was a 1964 graduate of Conshohocken High School. She then matriculated to Temple University to pursue and obtain a degree in Early Childhood Education. She was also a Daycare Teacher, a Technician for RDL Inc. and C & D Battery. Grace was also a former employee of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, where she enjoyed being a Job Developer.




Sister Howard enjoyed reading, writing poetry, attending Broadway shows, movies, shopping and going to dinner. She also enjoyed collecting earrings, redesigning old jewelry, and making sure her nails were kept in a most excellent way. Grace was fondly known for her stylish clothes and jewelry, along with her beautiful contagious smile.




Sister Grace Howard is survived by her son Tyrone Howard, Jr. (Ty) and 2 grandchildren, Tyler Howard and Gabriella Elie Howard, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.




Homegoing service will be held Friday, April 5, 2024, at St. John-Josie D. Heard A. M. E. Church, 100 East 8th Avenue, Conshohocken, PA. Viewing will be held at the Church from 9:00 a.m. – 11a.m. Service following at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Gulph Christian Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
