Denise H. (née Currier) Lewis, 71, of Norristown, passed away suddenly on July 31, 2026, in East Norriton, surrounded by her children and brother.

Denise was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, to Mary Ruth (née Kinckiner) Currier and Isaac "Ike" E. Currier on July 18, 1955. Growing up in Plymouth Valley, she attended Bishop Kenrick High School and graduated in 1973. She earned her undergraduate degree from East Stroudsburg State College in 1977 and was a proud sister of ΑΟΠ. As a busy parent and full-time principal, she earned a master's degree in education administration from Saint Joseph's University. She worked as an elementary school and special education teacher at Norristown School District, Saint Mary's Elementary School in Schwenksville, Little Angel's Preschool in East Norriton; teacher and principal at Saint Paul's (later Our Lady of Victory) Elementary School in Norristown, and Our Lady of Grace Elementary School in Penndel. She also worked at the first IKEA in the United States, formerly in Plymouth Meeting, helping to open new stores in Texas and California. She loved waitressing at the Jem Restaurant and Perkins Pancake House. The role she was most proud of was being a wife, mom, aunt, and family matriarch. 

Denise enjoyed reading voraciously, watching Hallmark and sci-fi movies, bowling, gardening, playing pinochle and solitaire, investigating genealogy and family history, and rooting for the Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers. She had fond memories traveling with her husband Jim and her children to Williamsburg, Virginia, and the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. She grew up exploring the Poconos, where she spent her childhood summers along Lake Wallenpaupack at her family's cabin. She was an adult leader and the "Popcorn Colonel" for her sons' Boy Scout Troop 622, and was an avid scouter herself, achieving the Silver Award as a Girl Scout with her scoutmaster mom by her side. A parishioner, Eucharistic minister, and leader at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Denise enjoyed planning the annual Christmas Bazaar for over twenty years with her close parish friends. She also served on the lay leaders board for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She cared about her hometown and advocated for her community in the North End of Norristown and East Norriton: her efforts led to Norristown paving its alleys and naming them. She had a strong sense of social justice. After church, you could find her and Jim at a local diner, Lou's Sandwich Shop, or The Jem Restaurant, talking to neighbors and connecting with their community.

Denise is survived by her children, James I. Lewis (Alycia Monaco) and Robert Lewis (Emily Cerwonka); her stepson, Daniel Lewis; her step-grandchildren, Carmen Lewis and Vera Lewis; her brother Kevin E. Currier; and her many nieces and nephews, whom she loved and cared for as her own. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James E. Lewis; her parents, Isaac "Ike" E. Currier and Mary Ruth (née Kinckiner) Currier; and her brothers Robert and Brian Currier.

Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 714 DeKalb St, Norristown, PA 19401, on Friday, August 7th. Viewing is from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the church, followed by Holy Mass at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Richard K. McFadden officiating.
