Obituary

Constance P. Winoski (née Powers) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 29, 2026, at the age of 96 after a brief illness.

Connie was born on July 14, 1929, to John and Margaret Powers in her grandmother’s house on Cedar Avenue in West Conshohocken, the third of four children.

Connie was a gifted musician and loved to perform. At the age of 8 she sang with her sister Alice on a popular radio show, and at 12 years old she was recruited to play the organ for funerals and weddings at St. Gertrude’s Church in West Conshohocken.

Following high school, Connie was called by God to become a Dominican nun in Newburgh, NY and as Sister Margaret John was assigned to teach music and piano at St. Patrick’s School in Woodbury, NJ. Connie excelled in this role and was selected to attend the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City for a 2-year Piano music program.

Returning to St. Patrick’s School after Juilliard, she began to exchange post cards and letters with her high school sweetheart, a sailor named William McCarrick on the USS Coral Sea (CV-43), who was serving his country during the Korean War. Connie later left the Convent and married William in 1954 and raised 5 children together.

Connie taught piano and organ in her King of Prussia home for many years, while also performing as a church organist and professional pianist. Connie was a founding member and original church organist at Mother of Divine Providence parish.

As a professional entertainer, she played piano and sang at a number of local hotels and restaurants over the years. The Connie McCarrick Trio was a popular jazz and lounge act that had an extended run at the Treadway Inn in West Chester in the mid-1970’s.

On a weekend in 1977 Connie found time to travel to Lumberton, NJ and after only 5 hours of training was able to skydive solo from 3,000 feet and fulfill another lifelong dream.

Connie was the organist at St. John Vianney church in Gladwyne, PA for a number of years, and was the organist for the famed “Kennedy Wedding” in 1979, when Joseph P. Kennedy II married Shelia Rauch.

Connie later had long stint at the Fife & Drum restaurant and lounge at the Holiday Inn in Center City Philadelphia. Based on Connie’s tremendous talent and wide repertoire, the Fife and Drum was named the Best Piano Bar in Philadelphia in the late 1970’s. It was there that Connie met Col. Walter M. Winoski, USMC, and they were married in 1981. Shortly after their marriage, Connie and Col. Winoski were transferred to Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Butler in Okinawa, Japan. Ever the entertainer, Connie performed at the Okinawa Hilton during her stay in Japan, with the highlight being her providing the entertainment for an event honoring Emperor Akihito in 1984.

Connie and her mother Margaret Furey also travelled throughout Asia during her time in Okinawa. Those travels included shopping, and bringing several unique art, jewelry, and furniture pieces back with her to the U.S.

A few years after being transferred to MCB Quantico in 1984, Connie and Col. Winoski retired to Fort Walton Beach, FL. Of course, Connie became the organist for the nearby Eglin Air Force Base chapel, where one of her highlights was providing the music for President Bill Clinton’s visit for a memorial service in 1996. Col. Winoski passed away in May 1995 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Connie moved with her mother to Radnor, PA in 1997 to be closer to her family. Once again, she became the church organist at nearby Trinity Lutheran Church for 15 years and later became the music director at All Saints Church in Norristown, PA. Connie also formed a rock band called Sapphire and was the band leader, playing keyboards and vocals.

Connie is survived by her children, William McCarrick, Patricia Dix (Steve), Kathleen Feeney (Michael), and Michael McCarrick (Eileen), along with 13 grandchildren: Meg Gilman (Adam), Jessica McCarrick-Ramoy (Dave), Michael Feeney (Julia), Colleen Burkhardt (Jack), Brian Dix (Jessica), Katie Dix, Kelly Gallegos (Tony), Michael McCarrick, Matthew McCarrick, Sean Dix, Kathleen McCarrick, Erin McCarrick, and Julia McCarrick, and 8 great-grandchildren, and her dear friend Donna Zummo, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Connie was preceded in death by the father of her children, William T. McCarrick, son Timothy McCarrick (Marybeth), her brother Jack Powers and sisters Alice Stuckey and Joan Faggioli.

Connie was the Matriarch of her extended family, and she is grateful to God for blessing her with her musical talent and such a full life. Connie always considered her five children to be her greatest achievement, and she touched so many lives and was a tremendous inspiration to family and friends.

Connie lived independently up until her passing, planning the music every month for each church service based on the readings, and driving to church every Sunday morning.

Connie was mentally sharp to the end, picking out the music and performers for her service and even making edits and corrections to this obituary.

Connie will be sorely missed by so many.

A Life Celebration and family visitation will be held from 6PM to 8PM on Tuesday July 14th at Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home at 300 Fayette Street in Conshohocken, PA.
